NWHF President & CEO to Serve on Multnomah County Commission Temporarily

We are excited to share that Northwest Health Foundation’s President and CEO Jesse Beason will serve on the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners as interim successor to Commissioner Susheela Jayapal, District 2, who is running for the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Under the county code, commissioners must resign to seek another elected office. Commissioners also must designate an interim successor to serve should they ever resign or otherwise be unable to serve out their term. Commissioner Jayapal chose Jesse in January 2022.

Jesse’s tenure as Commissioner begins November 1 and will likely end in mid-June 2024 following the May 2024 election for the District 2 position and the County’s budget process. If no candidate wins a majority of votes in the May 2024 election, Jesse may ask the Commission to appoint someone to serve until the next elected commissioner takes office.

Jesse will remain President and CEO of Northwest Health Foundation. The NWHF board and staff fully support Jesse in taking on this role, and we have a plan in place to ensure the Foundation will continue to run smoothly as Jesse takes on this additional responsibility.

NWHF’s board has established policies to avoid any conflicts of interest. We will not pursue any funding from Multnomah County. We have not historically and will not make any grants to influence County business. NWHF will not lobby the County related to County business. Jesse will follow the advice of the County’s counsel regarding conflicts of interest related to joint NWHF grantees and Multnomah County contractors.
