Introducing NWHF’s New Board Members, Ryan & Mohamed
Please join Northwest Health Foundation in welcoming Dr. Hassan and Mohamed Alyajouri to our board of directors!
Ryan Hassan, M.D., M.P.H.
Ryan Hassan is a board-certified pediatrician working at Pediatric Associates of the Northwest. He lives in Clackamas with his wife, Christen, daughter, Olivia, and chihuahua, Luna Joe. His professional work centers around improving the lives of children by promoting preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyle choices at the individual and community levels and empowering physicians to become better advocates for their patients.
Dr. Hassan is also the Medical Director at Boost Oregon, a nonprofit organization that empowers people to make science-based vaccine decisions for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Dr. Hassan grew up in Texas, where he completed medical school in El Paso before moving to Utah for pediatric residency. He moved to Oregon in 2017 to start working as an outpatient pediatrician. His training and career have helped him see the ways our health outcomes are tied to our physical, social and political environments before we are even born. Dr. Hassan is an avid outdoors enthusiast and enjoys running, biking, swimming, hiking, backpacking, climbing, snowboarding and kite surfing.
Mohamed Alyajouri, M.P.H.
Mohamed Alyajouri currently serves as the Administrative Director of the Division of Hospital Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare, Mohamed's expertise extends across various areas of healthcare, including primary care, inpatient medicine and practice management. He has developed programs for Oregon's Community Health Centers, managed projects for the Multnomah County Health Department and implemented quality improvement initiatives. Notably, he also brings international experience, having worked with the World Health Organization.
Beyond his professional work, Mohamed is deeply passionate about civic engagement and transforming communities. Throughout his adult life, he has actively contributed to community building, social justice initiatives empowering BIPOC communities, interfaith outreach and partnerships, and public health promotion.
A proud Oregonian, Yemeni-American and first-generation Muslim immigrant, Mohamed made history in 2017. He became the first and only Muslim immigrant elected to public office in Oregon, serving on the seven-member Portland Community College Board of Trustees. Governor Kate Brown further recognized his dedication by appointing him to the Oregon Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OCAPIA) from April 2019 to April 2023.
Mohamed completed both his undergraduate and graduate studies at Oregon State University. He earned a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration and a master's degree in public health. He also currently serves on the Foundation Board for Portland Community College and on the Outreach Committee for the Muslim Educational Trust.
Currently, he resides in Portland, Oregon with his wife and three children.
Some other changes to the NWHF board this year: Cyreena Boston-Ashby ended her two-year term as Board Chair. Mechele Johnson stepped in as Chair and Corinne Sams as Vice Chair.
